Jamal has over 28 years of experience in activism in civil society organizations and grassroots movements. Jamal has experience in taking small initiatives and building them into significant organizations and grassroots movements that leave significant impacts on the Palestinian civil society and its causes. As Advocacy and Lobbying Manager at the Palestinian Farmers’ Union, some of Jamal’s responsibilities include: coordinating PFU projects’ interventions and campaigns and assisting PFU to develop these projects and campaigns, assist PFU to develop and deliver advocacy messages and shape campaigns, assist in developing the evaluations matrix and projects reports, and assist in conducting evidence based studies and researches prior to the launch of any advocacy campaign.
In addition to his work at PFU, Jamal co-founded several civil society organizations such as the Palestinian Agriculture Relief Committee (PARC), the Palestinian Association for Cultural Exchange (PACE), and the Palestinian environmental NGOSs Network-PENGON. Through his work in PENGON, Jamal contributed to the establishment of the popular campaign against the wall and settlement, Stop the Wall (STW), in 2002. In 2013, he worked with activists and grassroots organizations on the establishment of Land Defense Coalition- LDC to function as an umbrella for a number of grassroots movements, initiatives, and organizations to enhance coordination and cooperation between them and work to expand the popular grassroots base. STW and LDC,PFU in collaboration with colleagues and the Popular Committee in the Jordan Valley, founded the Popular Council for the Protection of the Jordan Valley as a framework for the unification of the efforts of Jordan Valley residents, especially the targeted communities, to meet the challenges they face. Jamal has a Bachelor’s Degree in Arabic Literature from Birzeit University and a MMBA from City University in London.
